Today I find myself writing out of frustration. Frustration not in the sense of being angry at a situation--no rant to follow—but in the sense that I see a problem and I don’t really know what I can do to make it better.
One of the largest issues facing our society today is integrity. Here is the issue: it is not simply that people and organizations lack integrity. It is that most of them don’t know what having integrity means so they don’t even know that they are lacking in integrity.
As you have heard before, “you don’t know what you don’t know.”
Every society that has achieved greatness – Greece, Rome (to a lesser level) and America (to the greatest) has done so via the integration of ideas. In case it isn’t obvious, in order to “integrate” you need to have “integrity” – it is the root of the word.
What’s happening in today’s world is the disintegration of not only ideas but values, which are literally being broken apart in front of us.
I suppose some examples would be good?
There are too many to count, and the list increases daily:
We are told that to live better we must learn to live with less, not produce (key word) more.
We are told that the body is somehow dividing into invisible boundaries (spirit and physical matter) and in order to exalt one you must destroy the other.
We are being taught that “democracy” is the opposite of individual rights and that a group (any group) can vote away the rights of an individual person whenever they feel like it.
We are using terms like “the greater good of society” while forgetting that society is not made of up of drones but is a group of individuals who all have different desires.
We think that fairness is above justice.
And quite possibly the worst, we are being told that our minds are impotent in grasping what is happening around us—so don’t bother.
I could go on.
I wish I had an amazing take away action step from this blog, but I really don’t. I’m hoping that at least some of the ideas I introduced above have sparked thoughts of your own because once you start to think, it won’t take you long before you start to integrate. And that is what is needed!
